Live Bicycle Photos

Today I hung out at the Aids Lifecycle expo in Golden Gate park for a couple of hours and met up with Emily. We rode around for a while, and took some pictures. I put about ten pounds worth of groceries in the basket and here's proof (of the bag at least). I also ran into another fellow Rivendell owner, Todd and his girlfriend Becky on Haight St. We talked for a while and made some indefinite riding plans. I think somebody may have knocked my bike over in the house yesterday, because when I got on it today, the basket was all out of whack, and the headlight was crooked as well. Some zipties fixed the light temporarily.

As part of my International Business readings, I subscribe to the Financial Times. I read a very interesting article today about the riots in France over the loosening of the labor laws with regards to young people having a 2 year trial period at their jobs. Right now, it is very hard to fire anybody without paying them a huge severance package, even if the economy is doing bad, or if the person is incompetent. Such social protectionist labor laws reduce productivity and are a drag on the French economy. The mere possibility of having to work hard to keep a job and not be guaranteed it for life is causing the French to riot on the streets. It doesn't really make much sense to me. Wake up and smell the globalization.
